See you soon?

IMG_3940

I love the idea of blogging and would love to build a journal, an online collection of words and pictures, something for me and everyone able to relate to what I have to say.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post that was very honest for a person like me. This was very unusual for me; I don't like to share negative feelings I have about myself because I want this space to be positive and a joy for you all to read. I do, however, think it was nice to let it out for once. I am generally a happy person, but we all have bad days!

After writing that post, I felt weird. I thought about deleting it. Sometimes it's hard letting everyone see your weaknesses! It got me thinking about blogging and how it's so easy to fall into that trap of trying to please everyone.

I love to blog, even though I don't blog that often, I still love it. Sometimes, though, I feel this pressure to be consistent and only write about the good things. I feel pressure to promote myself and be different and fresh. But then, I feel like my blog is turning into something I don't want it to become. The reality of it is, sometimes I don't want to take pictures of every little thing I do or eat because sometimes I just want to enjoy life!

I want my words to flow organically and I want them to be honest and sincere. Blogging consumes my thoughts on a daily basis.

Right now, I'm in a really good place. I love my life and the people in it. I want to make sure I cherish these moments. Because of this, I think I'll take a break. Not like I haven't been on a break these past couple of weeks, but I mean a REAL break. I am going to try to not feel pressure about blogging and coming up with new posts.

Right now, I'm a little confused. Sometimes it's hard to see the point because you don't actually see people reading your words. It makes me wonder if my words have ever resonated with anyone, if what I'm doing is making a difference in any way.  This will most likely not be a long break, it might not even last a month! I just hope to find some clarity when it comes to blogging.

I hope you all stay with me while I'm on break :-). I do appreciate all of your sweet comments so far and am SO thankful for all of the amazing people I have met because of this.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject, can any of you relate?

Patience

Hey guys, I'm sorry for being MIA. Between being busy with school, this crazy weather (heat, rain, humidity, repeat), plus slowly beginning to prepare to move again in about two months, I've been feeling tired, without inspiration and with a bad case of writer's block. Here are some quick thoughts:

- I don't know what it is, but I've been having a tough time with words. I find writing so difficult these days. Completing assignments for school takes me twice as long as usual...which is bad because I'm an English major and there is a lot of reading and writing to be done!

- My laptop crashed two days ago and I had to get a new one. I am horrible when it comes to technology and I was just getting used to the laptop I already had. I have no clue what I'm doing on this thing most of the time! I just tried to upload a photo for this post and it's giving me problems. Sigh.

- Sometimes it's okay to cry. I want to be able to wake up each and every morning and be in a great mood and just enjoy the day. I want to write something happy for you all to read and not be a downer. But, sometimes life seems overwhelming. Sometimes I just want to crawl under the covers and cry and be alone and not care. Maybe days like these are important, though. Days where it's okay to be angry and disappointed because things don't always turn out the way I wish they would. Days where I want to feel prettier, a tad bit cooler and little less sensitive. Days where shaving my legs seems like a boring chore and shaving my underarms is out of the question. I just want to cry and eat cake and hate everything. Just for one day. I guess these days are necessary, and I know this idea is a bit played out, but experiencing days like these truly help me to appreciate the better ones.

Thanks for reading....

Doggie Bandana

IMG_3243

One day, I decided that I wanted to make my sweet little Ginger a cute little bandana, but I wasn't sure where to start. I kind of improvised and came up with this!

IMG_3245

It turned into more of a cape, but it looks like a bandana when you twist it to the front. See?

 IMG_3272

It took me a couple of days to make this because I wasn't really on a mission or anything. I could have done it in like an hour and half if I had known what I was doing. Just in case you have a dog and would like to make one, here is how I did it:

Supplies:
Two knitting needles - I used 4.5 mm sized needles
One crochet hook - I used a size 5
One large sewing needle
Yarn - I used 100% cotton yarn from Sugar 'n Cream. I'm not sure of the name of the color, I can't find the tag!
Scissors

Directions:
1- k2, yo, k to end. Repeat on each row until you reach desired width, then cast off. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
3- Grab a crochet hook and some more yarn. Chain stitch a good amount (enough to comfortably tie around your dog's neck)
4- Gently remove chain from hook and weave through the wide part of the knitted bandana
5- Tie a knot on each end of the chain

Done! Hope you give it a try :-)

Liebster Award!

Yay!! I was recently nominated for a Liebster Award by the lovely Liz of Rustic Peach! I am beyond excited and happy! THANK YOU, LIZ!

This is such a fun little activity and I think it's a cool way to promote great blogs and the nice people behind them. So, lets get started :-)

Here are the rules for all nominees:
1. Post 11 things about yourself
2. Answer the 11 questions created by the person who nominated you
3. Create 11 questions of your own to ask the bloggers you decide to nominate
4. Choose 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers to nominate and link them on your blog post
5. Bloggers must be notified of their award!
6. No tag backs!

11 Things About Me:

1// I love coffee in the morning.
2// I love snail mail.
3// I used to be obsessed with the movie Lords of Dogtown and the Documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys. Yes. I wanted to be an awesome skater girl living in the 1970s. This was not too long ago, either.
4// I love Cat Stevens.
5// I've seen the movie 10 Things I Hate About You like 20 times. I'm pretty sure I know every word by heart.
6// I want to do everything. Paint, write, win an Oscar, open a pottery shop and become a Florist. I realize how unrealistic this may be and it makes me sad!
7// I go through phases of being obsessed with certain types of candy or food. I ate like half a bag of salted caramels once, and I felt sick every time I thought about caramel for like a month.
8// I use a lot of commas. More than one person has told me this but I can't help my myself.
9// I can't whistle.
10// I cry a lot. When I'm happy, when others are happy, when others are sad, when I'm sad, I cry. I cried during...pretty much every movie I've ever seen. Sometimes I laugh so hard, I cry. I cry when I'm stressed, and when I'm excited. I just cry a lot.
11// I have killed every plant I have ever owned.

11 Questions from Liz:

1. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Mint Chocolate Chip! Always.
2. What are some things that you must take when you travel?
Hair stuff (I would look crazy without doing my hair), lip balm, my phone (I get lost a lot), and something to read.
3. What was your childhood dream? Did that dream already come true in your life or are you working to achieve that dream?
I can't really remember one specific dream I have had as a child. I have always wanted to everything. I used to want to be a ballerina, a fashion designer, a singer, and writer. I used to sit my little sister and her friends in our backyard and pretend to be a teacher. I never actually thought of becoming a teacher back then,  but this memory makes me smile because I am now studying to be an English teacher.
4. What is your favorite Disney movie and why?
Probably Beauty and the Beast! I have always loved this movie, and I just think it's a beautiful story.
5. If you win a lottery, what would you do with the money?
This is a hard question. It's one of those things where you don't know what you'll do until it happens. Right now, I would probably buy my mom a house, pay for school, pay off my brother's student loans, and then I'm not sure what!
6. What is one iphone or android app that you cannot live without. If you don't have a smartphone by any chance, what app do you think you may need?
Hmm I do have a smartphone, but I don't use many apps. I think the scanner apps are pretty cool. Greg likes to scan bar codes in stores to see if the item we're thinking about buying is being sold anywhere else for a lesser price.
7. What would you be doing in 10 years from now?
I would like to own a farm, be a wife, mother and a teacher. Living happily on a huge amount of land, making my own things and eating things I have grown myself.
8. Flats or heels? or flip-flops?
Flats!
9. If you were stranded on an island, what three things you wish you would have?
Another person, water, and a way out!
10What is the craziest thing you like to eat or have ever tried (taken from Shio)?
I'm not a risk-taker when it comes to food. I have never eaten anything crazy! Maybe sushi?
11. Name the top three best places you've been to (taken from Grace).
Italy, New York, Austria.

My 11 Questions:

1- What's your favorite book?
2- Have you ever wished you were born in another time period? If so, when?
3- Describe your morning routine on a Saturday.
4- What do you cook (or eat) when you don't feel like spending a lot of time in the kitchen?
5- What's a good movie you've seen lately?
6- What's your favorite scent?
7- Coffee or tea?
8- What is your greatest accomplishment?
9- What is your favorite season, and why?
10- Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
11- What is your favorite color to wear?

My 11 Nominees:

1- Rachel / Our Buzzards
2- Emma / Emma Knitted
4- Felicia / A Flower of the Sky
5- Gabrielle / Hippie Go Lucky
7- Claire / Be Earthwise
8- Ffion / Give Me Magical
9- Jazmin /  Life's Little Thrills
10-  Aimee / Miss Aimee Owl
11- Hannah / Have a Go, Hannah

And, there you have it! Have fun :-)
